Palmer West Students Visit the Fountainhead

SAN JOSE, California -- Some 100 Palmer West students have inaugurated the college's new "Fountainhead experience," a program that provides 10th and 11th quarter students the opportunity to visit Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa.

The students are provided three days of workshops, lectures, and social activities that focus on the philosophy, history and contributions of Palmer College.

"We've established this program to imbue our students with a better sense of their heritage," said Palmer West President Peter Martin, DC. Though Palmer West students are part of the Palmer University system, Dr. Martin pointed out that living and studying in the "Silicon Valley" is a long way from the "Palmer mystique."

The Fountainhead experience covers the students' airfare and accommodations, and takes place in April and October. The inaugural program speakers included Palmer Chancellor Michael Crawford; Dr. Peter Martin; Palmer President Dr. Virgil Strang; Dr. Don Betz (provost), and Dr. Guy Riekeman (executive director of the Palmer Institute for Professional Advancement).

Alana Callender, director of the Palmer Foundation for Chiropractic History, guided the students on tours of the campus, the Palmer Mansion, and the Ryan Building, where D.D. Palmer gave the first chiropractic adjustment.
