Dictionary of Chiropractic to be Published

By Editorial Staff
The International Chiropractors Association and the Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic Tenets and Science (FACTS) are at work on a project to compile and publish the International Dictionary of Chiropractic, set for distribution in early 1995. The project is being underwritten by a $25,000 grant from FACTS.

ICA President R. James Gregg, DC, called the project a "landmark publication," and said that "...upwards of 100 of the best minds in chiropractic..." would define the terms and concepts of chiropractic.

Charles Masarsky, BS, DC, author and editor of the newsletter, Neurological Fitness, will direct the dictionary project. Dr. Masarsky has been published in JMPT, Chiropractic Technique, and the International Review of Chiropractic. He is a graduate of New York Chiropractic College and received his BS in biology from Cornell University, and has done extensive graduate work in genetics and biochemistry.

Dr. Masarsky will serve as project director and chairman of a seven-member steering committee comprised of DCs Claudia Anrig-Howe, Gerard Clum, Joan Fallon, Christopher Kent, Ronald Rupert, and Nell Williams. The steering committee will oversee six committees comprised of 8-15 individuals who will list and define terms relevant to chiropractic concerning anatomy, techniques, clinical procedures, diagnostic imaging, laboratory procedures, history, philosophy, and third-party payment.

Dr. Masarsky said developing the document would be "an important test of the validity and utility of the consensus process."

The project will culminate in a review conference open to all the profession where DCs will have the opportunity to review and offer comment on the text of the work prior to publication.

ICA and FACTS are inviting interested parties to submit information and/or requests to participate in the dictionary project to:
