In Memoriam -- Alfred L. Logan -- An LACC Tribute

By John F. Beckman, DC
On Tuesday, April 13, 1993, the chiropractic profession lost one of its truly dedicated colleagues, Dr. Alfred L. "Roy" Logan. After graduating from Hollywood College of Chiropractic, Dr. Logan went on to become one of the profession's finest technique instructors and healers. He was widely known throughout his home state of California for his knowledgeable and entertaining seminars on technique, and later throughout the world as he traveled and taught during his "retirement." His many students will attest to the shear joy of watching a true master of his chosen craft at work.

Dr. Logan began practice in 1956 with his long-time mentor, Dr. D.J. Metzinger, and continued practice in Westminster, California until his retirement in 1984. During that time he established his dual career as a practitioner and a teacher/mentor. Over time, he developed Dr. Metzinger's work with diversified technique into an approach that had wide applicability to a variety of patient conditions. He established a postgraduate course at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in diversified technique, lectured widely for state and national associations, and became a welcomed addition to the relicensing seminars offered through the LACC Division of Postgraduate and Continuing Education. From 1984 to 1988, Dr. Logan served as an interim clinic director and academic dean at the Anglo-European Chiropractic College. Upon his return to the United States he reaffiliated with LACC as a consultant in their clinics.

His many accomplishments included the publishing of two books on technique, including The Clinical Application of Chiropractic -- Low Back and Pelvis," a series of videotapes demonstrating chiropractic technique for adjusting different structures of the body, and just prior to his death, completion of a manuscript for a text on the knee. Most enduring, however, are the memories that his patients and his students have of a caring, dedicated mentor, teacher, and healer.
