Dr. Swoboda served an externship at Kahului Chiropractic Clinic in Maui, Hawaii and a senior internship at the St. Paul Clinic in St. Paul, Minnesota. In addition, she has extensive research experience and is licensed in five states.
The Kentuckiana Children's Center is a non-profit organization that provides chiropractic care and special education to children with special needs. Services are provided gratis to those without financial means.
Canadian Post Office Continues to Endorse DC-Designed Strap
The Canadian Post Corporation recently made arrangements to continue to offer the option of a chiropractically-designed mailbag strap to the 22,000 letter carriers of Canada. This agreement extends through the next three years. The design of Canadian DC Murry Miller, the mailbag strap reduces low back and neck/shoulder discomfort through weight redistribution.
The Canada Post first made the strap available to its postal workers as standard issue equipment in 1987. A modified version of the Canadian strap is available in the U.S. through Wasserman Uniform Co. of Columbus Ohio.
AAACM Reports Poll Results
The American Association for the Advancement of Chiropractic Medicine (AAACM) recently reported the results of a poll that appeared in the October 11, 1991 issue of "DC." The poll asked DCs whether they were in favor of "the use of pharmaceuticals commensurate with the practice of chiropractic." According to the AAACM, the regional breakdown percentages of votes favoring the use of pharmaceuticals were: the West, 29 percent; the South, 27 percent; the Midwest, 24 percent; and the Northeast 20 percent. The AAACM reports that the majority of respondents were in practice from 5 to 15 years with the most responses from California, followed by Florida.

Illinois Chiro Society Creates Sports Council
The Illinois Chiropractic Society (ICS) recently announced the addition of its new sports council to its organization. Drs. Peter Meyer, Pierre Giraud, Steven Segal, Francis Di Iorio, and Brian Woodard were appointed as committee members of the council. Each of these DCs are also members of the ACA Sports Council and are all CCSPs.
According to the ICS, the sports council will provide a network for sports-oriented chiropractors throughout the state, as well as the nation through its relationship with the ACA Sports Council. Carl Cleveland III on University of Kansas Health Panel
Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III, president of the Cleveland Chiropractic Colleges, was a participant at the recent University of Kansas Medical Center interdisciplinary health care panel that included John Renner, M.D., and Elaine Joslyn, D.O. The doctors on the panel spoke about and compared their respective professions. Dr. Cleveland presented an overview of the chiropractic approach to health and highlighted several research studies and conclusions that demonstrate the effectiveness of spinal adjustments.
DC Named Co-chair of Bicycle/Pedestrian Committee
Barry N. Burak, D.C. of Miami, Florida was recently appointed to the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee by the Dade County Commission. In addition, he was elected co-chairman of the committee by the other members, according to Jeffrey M. Hunter, Bicycle/Pedestrian coordinator for the county's Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Dr. Burak is a bicycling enthusiast who rides for distance. On weekends he says that he frequently rides 50-60 miles before breakfast.
NYCC Holds 5K Run for Charity
The New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) will hold its tenth annual 5 kilometer run on April 4th. Proceeds from the event will go to the United Cerebral Palsy Happiness House, a preschool and parent/infant program for children five and younger with special needs. The race will be followed by a chiropractic informational health fair open to the public.
NCC Awards 28 CA Certificates
The National College of Chiropractic (NCC) recently awarded Chiropractic Assistant (CA) certificates to 28 men and women. The 120-hour course which began in February of 1991, ended in January and was the first time NCC offered this type of instruction.
