Recognizing the Regulators: FCLB Congress

At the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Board's 86th Annual Educational Congress in San Antonio, the federation did much more than discuss its new "Triple CA" certification program for chiropractic assistants, as reported in our July 1 issue.

The FCLB event also featured a variety of educational sessions, the election of new board members, and the honoring of individual and organizations integral to the success of the federation and the profession.

In addition to the session on CA certification, educational sessions at the 2012 congress focused on topics such as chiropractic testing; strategies for updating statutes; reciprocity vs. endorsement; determining and maintaining competency; standards for post-discipline monitoring; international regulatory standards and discipline; online education; current edits to the draft Model Practice Act; and Medicare audit standards and how they affect regulatory boards.

Board elections for several positions yielded Dr. Maggie Colucci as District IV director, with Dr. Gary Counselman as alternate director; Dr. Michael Coon as District V director, with Dr. Ned Martello as alternate; and Dr. Larry Spicer as administrative fellow director. Dr. Gary Pennebaker was elected board chair.

Award recipients included the Washington Chiropractic Quality Assurance Commission (Dr. Earl L. Wiley Outstanding Board Award); Drs. Phillip Donato, Karen Mathiak, Lisa Richard and Albert Stabile (Special Presidential Recognition); Drs. Steve Conway, Stephen Foreman, Michael Massey, Dwight Schmidt, Richard Tollefson, and Ms. Joan Carl (Pillars of Chiropractic Award); Dr. Hank Hulteen (George R. Arvidson Award for Meritorious Service); and Mr. Steve Bearden (Dr. Wayne Wolfson Scholarship Award).

Journal of Chiro. Humanities Indexed on PubMed

The National Library of Medicine's search engine, PubMed, now features the Journal of Chiropractic Humanities among its indexed publications. According to JCH Editor Dr. Claire Johnson, editor of National University of Health Sciences' two other publications, the Journal of Manipulative & Physiological Therapeutics and the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, JCH is included in several other indexing systems, but "PubMed is where health care providers and decision-makers look when searching for trustworthy and high-quality literature." All three NUHS journals are now indexed by PubMed.
