Beyond Active Duty: Expanding Access to Chiropractic
Reps. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) and Dave Loebsack (D-Iowa) have introduced legislation in the House of Representatives that would give military retirees, their dependents and survivors access to chiropractic care through the Department of Defense's TRICARE health program.
The legislation also stipulates that chiropractic care, defined in the act as including "diagnosis (including by diagnostic x-ray tests), evaluation and management, and therapeutic services for the treatment of a patient's health condition, including neuromusculoskeletal conditions and the subluxation complex, and such other services determined appropriate by the Secretary and as authorized under State law" must be provided only by a doctor of chiropractic; and that covered beneficiaries have direct access to a DC without referral by any other health care provider.
