What If ...

By Keith Innes
What if we all had the opportunity to walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Well, I haven't! But I came close! Approximately 10 years ago I was given the opportunity to follow a very learned doctor and to share in his experiences and teachings. There is absolutely no question in my mind that my success in chiropractic initially started with my association with this individual.

Chiropractic leaders of the past have left us with a legacy of writings and texts, all of which have one common thread: the thread of constant improvement and change. It is really sad that so many cannot see this so obvious fact. Just look at Dr. B.J. Palmer's teachings. Static -- no, not ever. Always evolving, changing, and improved upon. Do you really think he would now be doing the things he was doing when he died? Not likely! This was a very inquisitive man. The same can be said for Dr. C.S. Gonstead. The many times I have been to Mt. Horeb to learn and visit with my colleagues, Drs. Cox, Stoenner, and Clinton, I constantly hear this statement: Subluxations are found on patients, not x-rays. I wonder what Dr. Gonstead would say if he saw what was happening to his concepts of spinal fixations by so many that will not take the time to update to 1991. I only missed seeing this great man by a few years, but I did seek out all of his videos and once again the same thread of change was ever so obvious.

Doctors and students, the man I spoke about in the first paragraph is still alive, well, and writing down his thoughts. He has published a book, I bought it, read it, and look forward with great eagerness to a follow-up version as there is just too much knowledge to put out for all of us to read and learn in one book.

In case you have not guessed, his name is Dr. L.J. Faye, D.C., a friend, teacher, a colleague, and someone I look up to with respect. A true mentor.

My suggestion to all is buy the book. It is chiropractic and you are a chiropractor.
