NUHS to Open Second Clinic in Florida
National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) has announced plans to open a second clinic in Florida. The clinic will feature comprehensive chiropractic care and integrative medical services while providing a clinical internship option for the university's DC students, according to Ron Mensching, NUHS vice president of business services.
The 7,000 square-foot, $1.9 million facility will serve the Tampa Bay community and is located four blocks from the academic facilities utilized by NUHS. The university's first Florida DC students began their studies in 2009 per a partnership agreement with Pinellas Park, Fla.-based St. Petersburg College. The first NUHS Florida clinic, reserved for faculty and students, opened at the same time in the Caruth Health Education Center of St. Petersburg College.
"As our Florida campus continues to grow and thrive, we are continuing to invest in facilities and educational opportunities for our DC students there while we seek to provide patient centered care to residents of the area," said NUHS President James Winterstein, DC. "By adding an eighth clinic to our university's Whole Health Center system, we are also strengthening our commitment to excellence in clinical education, as well as our commitment to bringing excellence in integrative medical care to the Tampa and Saint Petersburg area."
NBCE Chief Examiner at Life Chiropractic College West
As of the May 2012 Part IV Practical Examination, Dr. James Peterson is serving as the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners' chief examiner at Life Chiropractic College West. Dr. Peterson previously served as chief examiner at Cleveland College of Chiropractic - Los Angeles from 1997 to 2011, when the Cleveland College system announced that the Los Angeles location would be shutting its doors by year's end.
"We are pleased to have a well-trained and experienced individual such as Dr. Peterson to step into the role of Chief Examiner at the Life West test site," commented Dr. Paul Townsend, director of Part IV examination and development for the national board. "He provided strong leadership at the CCC-LA site and will bring that same leadership and commitment to his new role."
National Board's Acupuncture Exam Goes Electronic
In other NBCE news, the board recently announced that its acupuncture examination has transitioned to a computer-based format. According to the NBCE, the move from pen-and-paper format to electronic was made "to enable students of chiropractic and chiropractic practitioners to have more frequent and more convenient access to the examination."
The next acupuncture exam will be held Aug. 2, 2012, at Pearson VUE testing centers around the country. Complete exam details and an exam application are available online at www.nbce.org/acupuncture.
