The CCCKC video, "Shaping the Future of Healthcare ... One Doctor at a Time," competed in the category of recruiting/career guidance, and was one of 31 films entered in this category.
"My objective was to portray Cleveland Chiropractic College as a cutting-edge institution with an eye toward the future," said Anita Harnett, producer of the video. "But the gold medal is not only for the college, it's for chiropractic education."
EFS President Receives Honorary Life West Degree
Stephen Galvin, president of Education Funding Services (EFS), received an honorary Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from Life West Chiropractic College (LCWW) for his development of the nation's first privately-funded chiropractic student loan program. He was honored during LCCW's 29th commencement ceremonies on December 7, 1996.
Since its founding, EFS-administered programs have generated more than $600 million in loan volume, and the company has enjoyed 16 consecutive quarters of double digit volume growth.
DC Returns to Bodybuilding
Dr. Alan Palmer has revived a career in bodybuilding.After a 15 year hiatus from competing in bodybuilding, Dr. Alan Palmer of Scottsdale, Arizona has made a spectacular comeback, placing first in eight different competitions, including the Southwest Natural Championships, and the U.S.A. Natural Championships. He traveled to Greece to compete with the U.S. team, and won within his division at the Natural Universe Competition held in December in Las Vegas.
Dr. Palmer commented that he would like to use these accomplishments to reach out to the youth of his community and promote a drug-free lifestyle. He is also close to completing a book.
Sherman College Students Create Chiropractic Board Game
Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic students Michael Burcon and Pauline O'Dell have created a board game that tests the knowledge of players with questions that are similar to those of the chiropractic national boards. The game, christened The Board, was designed to prepare undergraduate students for chiropractic college, and for students already in chiropractic programs, to review for their boards.
The game has a wooden board with miniature models of human vertebrae as game pieces; different academic subjects are represented by different colored board spaces. Turns are referred to as "terms," and the player who first "enters practice" wins.
The Board is a game for two to four players, taking one to two hours to play, and is being sold in most chiropractic college bookstores. One half of the royalties from the sale of the game will be donated to Sherman College. Future editions, covering other allied health professions, will be available in 1997.
