Expanding the VA Chiropractic Residency

By Editorial Staff

Five new sites will host the Department of Veterans Affairs Chiropractic Integrated Clinical Practice residency in 2020, double the original five that received Council on Chiropractic Education accreditation in 2016, following a successful three-year pilot program that began in 2014.

Here are the new sites, which according to Anthony Lisi, DC, DVA chiropractic program director, will be fully operational by July 1 and begin the CCE accreditation process soon thereafter:

  • Cincinnati VA Medical Center – directed by Michael Clay, DC, MPH
  • Miami VA Healthcare System – directed by Charles Penza, DC, PhD
  • VA Central Iowa Health Care System – directed by Nathan Hinkeldey, DC
  • VA Palo Alto Health Care System – directed by Robert Walsh, DC
  • VA Puget Sounds Health Care System – directed by Clinton Daniels, DC, MS

  • Canandaigua VA Medical Center – directed by Paul Dougherty, DC
  • VA Connecticut Health Care System – directed by Dr. Lisi
  • VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System – directed by Valerie Johnson, DC
  • VA St. Louis Health Care System – directed by Pamela Wakefield, DC
  • VA Western New York Healthcare System – directed by Andrew Dunn, DC, MS

"To date, 23 of 24 program graduates (96%) have placed in hospital practice or medical academic positions within 9 months of program completion," said Dr. Lisi in announcing the new sites.

The application window for placement at all 10 sites opened Jan. 6, featuring new application and match processes. Per Dr. Lisi. "Match processes are the gold standard of fairness and transparency in applicant selection for medical and other healthcare residencies."
