ICA Fitness Symposium Joins Arnold's Fitness Weekend

By Editorial Staff
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Held in conjunction with the Arnold Schwarzenegger Fitness Weekend, the ICA sponsored its Symposium on Natural Fitness here for the fourth consecutive year. The symposium promotes the importance of a healthy, drug-free, active lifestyle.

"We are a perfect team: the world of fitness, the world of bodybuilding, and the world of chiropractors," said Arnold, speaking to a sold-out crowd. He said he would continue to support chiropractic and help promote fitness and health.

Dr. Jack Barnathan, president of ICA's Fitness Council, joined with Dr. Coralee Van Egmond, vice president of the Council, and former Mr. Universe, Lee LaBrada, for a special session on training efficiency, safety, and optimal spinal health.

A special educational segment on personal fitness for the DC, and the spinal health implications of the most common forms of exercises, featured Denise Paglia, ESPN fitness show host and champion bodybuilder, and the husband and wife chiropractors, Drs. Gerry and Paulette Mattia.

This year's program also featured Tom Deters, DC, editor of Muscle and Fitness magazine, sharing his research, study, and practical experience on how nutrition can enhance the strength, endurance and performance of athletes and patients.

ACA Endorses Foot Levelers' Orthotics

The full line of Foot Levelers' orthotics has received the endorsement of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA). This special product recognition allows Foot Levelers to use the ACA endorsement seal, which is only awarded after a review of the product and marketing methods.

"We are proud of the ACA's recognition and will respect its endorsement, for we are also proud of the quality we put into our orthotic product and the reputation our company has gained over the past 43 years," said Mr. Kent Greenawalt, president of Foot Levelers, Inc. "We are dedicated to motivating high standards, greater patient acceptance, and increased opportunities for the chiropractic profession."

Dr. Edward Maurer, ACA governor of District II, said he was grateful to the company for its many contributions to the chiropractic profession over the years.

ICAC Names Dr. Maltby "Chiro of the Year"

John Maltby, DC, president of the International Chiropractors Association of California (ICAC), was awarded that association's highest honor, "Chiropractor of the Year," at the ICAC convention February 10-11. Over 800 attendees were there at the presentation. The award has only been presented twice during this decade, the last time in 1992.

A Palmer graduate, Dr. Maltby oversees many of the daily operations of the ICAC; he has testified numerous times before the Board of Chiropractic Examiners; and he has visited the state capitol several times to speak with legislators and promote chiropractic. He has also visited many of the chiropractic college campuses, and chaired numerous ICAC board meetings. In 1992, Dr. Maltby was awarded the association's "Presidential Citation" for his outstanding efforts for the ICAC and the profession, and for his work on legislative activities, especially his grassroots work with several legislators.

Dr. Maltby is now ending his third consecutive term as ICAC president. He has a practice in Blythe, California, where he and his family live.

UCF Holds Second Annual Fundraiser

The Universal Chiropractic Foundation (UCF), a not-for-profit organization which treats children under 13 free of charge (see "Champion of the Children" March 11, 1994 "DC") held its second annual fundraiser. The UCF sold tickets for a drawing for a television, and Dr. Howard Cantor of New Jersey purchased the remaining 150 tickets right before the drawing. When Dr. Cantor won the television, he immediately donated it to Dr. Jim Dubel, who had hosted the drawing and made a substantial donation to UCF. The foundation has plans in the works to bring care to children in the Dominican Republic. For more information about the UCF call Dr. Todd Herold at (212) 662-7719.
