First Janda Scholarship Awarded to CMCC Intern
The Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) recently awarded the Vladimir Janda Memorial Scholarship to a fourth-year intern at CMCC, Brandon McMillan.
Brandon is the first recipient of the scholarship. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of clinical competency, commitment to integrating active care protocols in current patient care management, and an interest in further teaching or research in rehabilitation.
The Janda Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. Gary Lerna, a close friend and colleague of Professor Janda, who passed away in 2002.* CMCC now hosts an annual weekend workshop that covers Janda's techniques and theories. The proceeds from the weekend workshop are donated to the scholarship fund.

Life West Festival 2004
Life Chiropractic College West's annual celebration of chiropractic attracted people from all over the world and provided chiropractors an opportunity to earn credits for relicensure requirements. Attendees had the choice of 16 sessions that addressed a variety of chiropractic-practice subjects, including running a successful chiropractic office, workers' compensation and Medicare billing. The Life West continuing education department offered up to 24 hours of continuing education credits during the Oct. 21-23, 2004 event. Approximately 182 doctors took advantage of the credits for relicensure requirements.
Festival 2004 began with "SPA Day" (science, philosophy and art). Life West professor and alumni association board member Karen Franklin, DC, presented the annual Life West Alumni Association Student of the Year award to Tina Carrari. Dr. Gerard Clum, president of Life West, followed with a keynote speech about the state of chiropractic.
The second day of the festival, "New Technology Day," focused on imaging and analytical technology that will help doctors to better serve their patients. Participants took part in sessions that included balance testing, bone density testing, digital imaging, digital motion X-ray, and weight-bearing MRI. In the evening, approximately 120 prospective students attended a Life West open house, directed by the college's admission department.
Day three of Festival 2004 was "Technique Day." Chiropractors had the choice of attending technique seminars or taking part in the CPR certification program. At night, attendees enjoyed Oktoberfest, complete with authentic German food and music. Dr. Clum made several President's Circle presentations and acknowledged contributors who supported the college in 2004.

The Ironman Triathlon is regarded as the preeminent endurance race in the world. Participants must complete a 2.4-mile swim in the Pacific Ocean, a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a full marathon of 26.2 miles. The race leads athletes through some of the toughest terrain on the planet.
