Grand Celebration Plans "Kick-Off" to a Great Start

By Editorial Staff
The Grand Celebration's official start is almost here and plans are kicking into high gear for the year-long series of events. On Saturday, September 17, 1994, hundreds of representatives from all aspects of chiropractic will assemble at the profession's birthplace in Davenport, Iowa, for the kick-off that will launch the year-long Grand Celebration.

Attending the event will be more than 300 representatives from national organizations, 68 chiropractic associations, 19 North American chiropractic colleges, and contributors who have donated.

Roger Hulsebus, DC, Chiropractic Centennial Foundation (CCF) trustee and Kick-Off co-chair, says the CCF's unity and enthusiasm are already generating excitement throughout the profession. "This is a significant start to our Centennial year. Because of our previous struggles and triumphs in the last century, this is our opportunity to speak with one voice."

Kick-Off Committee Co-chair Guy Riekeman, DC, agreed: "We've got an exciting and information-packed meeting planned. Not only will attendees get an update on Grand Celebration happenings for the coming year, but the Kick-Off itself promises to be entertaining as well."

Drs. Riekeman and Hulsebus both reported that the event's plans have been in the works since last year and continue at a fast pace.

"This is our chance to convey the CCF's vision of what the celebration year will look like," said Dr. Hulsebus. "Participants will get the latest news on Centennial projects like the Rose Parade float, the planned documentary, the illustrated history of chiropractic, and the national public relations efforts."

Additionally, guests will get a preview of the 1995 Washington and Davenport celebration weekends. Also during the meeting, participants will take part in workshops designed to inform and assist national organizations, associations, and colleges on how to promote the Centennial.

The Kick-Off's Saturday evening festivities will be exciting. Guests will be treated to an informal dinner hosted by "D.D. Palmer" himself, with dignitaries including legislators supportive of chiropractic. Guests will enjoy a multi-media presentation featuring the CCF's plans for the coming year and video greetings from chiropractic supporters from all over the world.

The Kick-Off takes place at the River Centre and restored Adler Theatre in Davenport. Both venues are located at the Mississippi Riverfront, not far from the spot where the first chiropractic adjustment was made 99 years ago. To become a CCF sponsor, call 1-800-635-8188.
