PCC Gets Federal Grant for Chiropractic Geriatric Education

By Editorial Staff
The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded a contract to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, based on information gathered through a 1995 contract, to study chiropractic geriatric education, and design a model for a chiropractic geriatric curriculum. During the first half of 1997, Palmer plans to conduct a pilot test of this curriculum, and will also assess the willingness of other chiropractic colleges to do the same.

Another facet of the HRSA contract is the organization of two mini-workshops that will involve chiropractic educators, administrators, researchers, staff from geriatric education centers, and representatives from several other health professions, to develop methods for interdisciplinary training opportunities for chiropractic students in the field of geriatrics. The workshops will be conducted in the spring of 1997: one at Palmer; one at the 1997 conference of the Assoc. of Chiropractic Colleges in San Diego, California.

"This second contract from HRSA will move us much further along in developing a standardized chiropractic geriatric curriculum that will be available as a resource for chiropractic colleges," said Lisa Killinger, DC, the project's director and instructor at the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research. "We are very excited to continue our initial efforts."
