Chiro Federation of NY Hooks up with Labor

The Chiropractic Federation of New York (CFNY), through the National Union of Chiropractic Physicians, has affiliated with the Office and Professional Employees International Union of the AFL-CIO.

The CFNY sees the union affiliation as a means of increasing recognition for chiropractic (as there are over 40 million union households), and a help with workers' compensation issues and HMO inclusion.

 



The Russians Are Coming

Nine Russian immigrant students are currently attending New York Chiropractic College. Their families immigrated to the U.S. within the past six years and settled in Brooklyn, which has a Russian immigrant population of over two million.

Student Vadim Dolgopolky has formed a Russian Chiropractic Club on campus; Jason Reznik has been working with the ICA Sports Council to develop a clinic in the Ukraine to assist Olympic athletes; Ruslan Nersesov, prior to chiropractic school, was accepted into the Juilliard School of Music as a trumpeter; and Edward Shnayder did a stint as a professional wrestling.

NYCC Appoints Provost

G. Lansing Blackshaw, PhD, of Bridgeport, Connecticut was appointed executive vice president provost of NYCC. Dr. Blackshaw comes to NYCC from the University of Bridgeport, where he served as provost and vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Blackshaw's doctorate is in nuclear engineering (North Carolina State University, 1966).

 


Speakers Featured at NYCC

Terry Yochum, DC, DACBR

Leading radiologist Terry Yochum, DC, spoke to an overflowing crowd of NYCC students and faculty in the college's Delavan Theater on the "Great Imitators of Bone Disease." Dr. Yochum sought to clear up certain myths of x-ray viewing, and stressed the importance of using a systemic approach.

Frederick Carrick, DC, PhD, meets with students and faculty after speaking on neurology.

Dr. Carrick, president of the ACA Council on Neurology, lectured at NYCC on the healing effects chiropractic can have on brain stem stroke patients, among other conditions. He presented a video detailing a stroke patient before and after being treated with chiropractic adjustments.

Dr. Carrick is a former NYCC postgraduate faculty member, and currently is a neurology professor at Logan College of Chiropractic.
