Life Forms Ties with Costa Rica University and Hospital

On December 9, 1992 Life College and the University of Costa Rica (UCR) forged an agreement to facilitate future academic exchanges between the two schools. Costa Rica's Consul General Christina Valverde was the guest of honor at the signing and reception at Life.

The seeds of the agreement were planted at an October 1992 meeting between Life and UCR representatives in San Jose, Costa Rica with the signing of a letter of intent by University of Costa Rica President Bonilla to develop a program of cooperation between the two schools.

Plans include the exchange of faculty, students, and academic materials over a five-year period. Said Dr. Williams, "We look forward to developing a long-term relationship with the university and the people of Costa Rica as well."

Dr. Williams presented the Consul General with a framed photograph of a marker recognizing Marietta's sister city Heredia, Costa Rica. He also presented Marietta Mayor pro tem and city Councilwoman Betty Hunter with a framed letter from the Mayor of Heredia to Marietta Mayor Joe Mack Wilson. Dr. Williams received a Costa Rican crest from the friends of Costa Rica.

Strengthening chiropractic ties to Costa Rica, Ronald Hash, vice president for academic affairs at Life, and Dr. Bob Bell, assistant to the president, also met with University of Costa Rica administrators as well as officials from Hospital San Juan de Dios. The hospital asked Life to submit a proposal to them for a doctor of chiropractic from Life College to become a part of their Sports Health department in order to conduct sports related chiropractic research.

Dr. Williams said, "This could be an outstanding breakthrough for Life College and the chiropractic profession. Chiropractic is not officially recognized in Costa Rica, so the hospital's interest is quite significant. This also could be beneficial because of the hospital's close association with the University of Costa Rica."
