Alaskan Board of Examiners in Peril?

By Editorial Staff
In Alaska, the governor's Task Force on Boards and Commissions has proposed that all health profession boards (medicine, chiropractic, nursing, dentistry, optometry, etc.) be combined within a single so-called Citizens Health Board. The Citizens Health Board would be comprised of 12 members, none of whom could be engaged in any of the professions regulated or have any financial interest in the health field. The board would function within the Department of Commerce and Economic Development, Division of Occupational Licensing. A leader of the task force is quoted as saying, "I believe safe, effective, and efficient licensing can take place without an individual board for each profession."
