D.C. Chairs Medical Disciplinary Committee

By Editorial Staff
For the first time, since the passage of the new Medical Practice Act, a chiropractic physician on the Disciplinary Committee of the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation has been elected its chairman.

Dr. Karl H. Zimmer, a 1963 graduate of National College, was elected by his colleagues on the Medical Disciplinary Committee as chairman. The committee is composed of five MDs, one DO and one DC. Dr. Zimmer, originally appointed by Governor James Thompson in 1984, is now serving his second term as a member of this committee.

Dr. Zimmer is past president and chairman of the board of the Illinois Chiropractic Society (ICS) and past president of the Chicago Chiropractic Society. He maintains a full-time practice in Evanston, Illinois and still manages to stay active as an advisor to the ICS.

The membership of the ICS have expressed their pride in Dr. Zimmer's remarkable accomplishment and their best wishes go to him in his new capacity. As the chairman, numerous hours will be demanded of his time for this sensitive assignment, a fact that is appreciated by the ICS.

Dr. Zimmer is representing chiropractic on a level that commands respect and confidence rarely achieved by a minority member of the committee.

Karl Zimmer is a role model for chiropractic; he's a chiropractor in a leadership position, working in conjuction with other health care professionals (MDs, and a DO) in a role that can help expand the influence of chiropractic.

Editor's Note

Dr. Zimmer has kept busy as president and chairman of the board of the ICS until his term recently expired. Dr. Zimmer has been the secretary and vice chairman of the Medical Disciplinary Board of the Department of Professional Regulation. He is the only chiropractor who is a member of a medical board and the only chiropractor who is a member of the Federation of State Medical Boards of the United States. He was recently honored by being elected chairman of the Medical Board by his peers.
