Michigan Chiropractic Council Works for Legislation

Due to the efforts of the Michigan Chiropractic Council (MCC) task force, in conjunction with national groups and input from other individuals and organizations, the Michigan Senate Appropriations Subcommittee reinstated Medicaid reimbursement for chiropractic services, effective October 1991. The MCC is currently working on legislation that will give chiropractors the right to refer patients to physical therapists; this will help define the roles of chiropractors and physical therapists while emphasizing that spinal adjustment is the domain of the chiropractic profession.

CCCKC Hosts Chiropractic History Conference

Cleveland Chiropractic College of Kansas City (CCCKC) and the Association for the History of Chiropractic (AHC) were co-sponsors of the 11th Annual Conference on Chiropractic History, held June 7-8, in Kansas City, Missouri. The schedule of events included a presentation of professional papers, a luncheon, tours of the campus, and a display of photographs and other items of historical interest. AHC Chairman Dr. Herbert Vear, Cleveland College President Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III, and Dr. Joseph Keating, vice president of the National Institute for Chiropractic Research (NICR), were among those making presentations at the conference.

NYCC Awards Presidential Scholarship

Dr. Kenneth W. Padgett, president of New York Chiropractic College (NYCC), recently awarded NYCC's Presidential Scholarship to student Karyn Marshall. She is a 3rd trimester student at NYCC, and a nine-time U.S. Women's Weightlifting champion and an International Weightlifting Federation world champion (See the Northeastern Forum in the February 15, 1991 issue of "DC," as well as the International Forum in the March 15, 1991 issue of "DC."). Karen recently won at this year's U.S. National Weightlifting Championship held in Blaine, Minnesota.

Life West Student Represents Chiropractic at Runner's Expo

Life Chiropractic College West student Linda Jannelli represented the college at the Runner's Expo, held the evening before San Francisco's Bay to Breakers run on May 19th. Formerly a professional triathlete, Ms. Jannelli gave sports and health information to people who stopped by Life West's booth at the event. The Runner's Expo attracted 60,000 runners, many of whom visited the Life West booth.
