American Chiropractic Board of Radiology Examination Hosted By Palmer College
Palmer College of Chiropractic (PCC) hosted the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology's annual examination for candidates seeking diplomate status on April 18-21.
Approximately 40 candidates were examined over the four day period.
The candidates are doctors of chiropractic who have satisfactorily completed either a three year residency program at a chiropractic college or a series of weekend postgraduate lectures offered by the colleges. Those who pass the rigorous examinations will become a diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology.
Palmer College Library Receives Grant Money
The David D. Palmer Health Sciences Library will receive part of a foundation for chiropractic education and research discretionary grant totalling $16,850 to be dispersed this spring to 11 members of the Chiropractic Libraries Consortium (CLIBCON).
This grant will assist in achieving one long range goal of CLIBCON: the loading of all the chiropractic college library collections onto a central bibliographic utility for both the shared development of a chiropractic bibliographic database and the ensuring of compatible online access to the database for enhancing and improving effective resource sharing.
ICA Names Dr. Robert Braile Chiropractor of the Year
The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) named Dr. Robert Braile, of Rockledge, Florida, 1990 Chiropractor of the Year. Dr. Braile was presented with the award at ICA's Annual Convention and Spinal Biomechanics Symposium in Tampa, Florida.
Dr. Braile is currently chairman of the ICA Representatives Assembly and chairman of ICA's membership committee.
Dr. Braile was selected Chiropractor of the Year by the Fellows of ICA. He is the 41st member to receive this honor, which began in 1950.
ICA Names Dr. Athens Sports Chiropractor of the Year
At the International Chiropractor's Association's Annual Convention in Tampa, Florida, Dr. Nicholas Athens, "the unofficial team chiropractor" for the San Francisco 49ers, was given the Sports Chiropractor of the Year award by the ICA. He was presented with this honor for his extraordinary work in sports chiropractic.
A graduate of Palmer College, Dr. Athens has been an ICA member since 1983.
Palmer College's Dr. William Meeker Presents Two Papers at the Sports and Industry Conference
Palmer College of Chiropractic-West (PCCW) Dean of Research, Dr. William Meeker, presented two papers at the recent "Cervical Spine and Upper Extremity in Sports and Industry" Conference at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco.
The program featured presentations by nationally recognized spinal-care specialists, such as Dr. Robert Anderson, Dr. Michael Dillingham, Dr. Joel Saal, and Dr. Arthur White. Speakers addressed advanced techniques in diagnosing spinal and upper extremity disorders affecting the injured employee or athlete. Dr. Meeker's two papers discussed "Chiropractic Manipulation: Techniques and Rationale" and "Designing Researching on Manipulation Treatment."
Palmer College of Chiropractic-West Appoints Chairman
Palmer College of Chiropractic-West Dean of Instruction William DuMonthier, D.C., was recently appointed chairman of the Institutional Indicators Panel of the Council on Chiropractic Education.
Dr. DuMonthier, a member of the Palmer West faculty for eight years, has been a member of the Institutional Indicators Panel since its inception.
The Institutional Indicators Panel is responsible for developing standardized methods by which CCE-member colleges organize data into measurable units to demonstrate insitutional adherence to these new standards in the Self Study documentation required for CCE accreditation.
Palmer College of Chiropractic-West Radiologist Affiliates with UC San Francisco MR Center
Well-versed in diagnostic imaging procedures and well-respected for her knowledge and expertise as a radiological specialist, Dr. Joan Davis, Palmer College of Chiropractic-West lecturer and Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology (D.A.C.B.R.), may soon establish herself as a leading chiropractic authority on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Later this month Dr. Davis begins a week-long fellowship on MR at the University of California -- San Francisco. The emphasis of this fellowship is on the body and musculoskeletal imaging.
MR imaging produces multiplanar sectional images of the body without the use of ionizing radiation. MR can detect many pathological states with a potential for detecting cellular dysfunction at the molecular level.
Last year, a number of local Bay Area MRI facilities approached Dr. Davis with the idea of joining their staff in a consulting capacity. She subsequently accepted such a position with San Francisco Magnetic Resonance Center.
"My goals are to become more proficient in MR interpretation and to educate the treating chiropractor about the value of MR and its application," she said.
New Members Elected to LACC's Board of Regents
At the February meeting of the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic's (LACC) Board of Regents, five new members were officially seated.
The five new members are as follows: James Theodore Martinoff, M.D., Ph.D. -- with extensive background in both business and educational settings and currently adjunct associate professor of pharmacy and medicine at the University of Southern California; Carol Ann Jones, D.C. -- with extensive background in education and engineering; Arden L. Albee, Ph.D. -- chief scientist and project scientist of the Mars Observer Mission and professor of geology at the California Institute of Technology; William P. Valusek, D.C. -- instructor at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in the basic science division; Patrick H. Sullivan, Jr. D.C., D.A.B.C.O. -- member of the advisory panel and chairman of Chiropractic Peer Review Committee.
