Reed B. Phillips Named 1990 FCER Researcher of the Year

Washington, D.C. -- More than 270 attendees of the International Conference on Spinal Manipulation (ICSM) rose to their feet in a standing ovation as Reed B. Phillips, DC, MSCM, PhD, was named the 1990 Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER) Researcher of the Year. The presentation was made by FCER President, George B. McClelland, DC, at a special luncheon on May 11, 1990.

As the scientific community devoted to chiropractic research flourishes, it is part of FCER's continuing mission to recognize its emerging leaders. Throughout his career, Dr. Phillips has demonstrated the qualities that define leadership.

Numerous articles written by Dr. Phillips have appeared in some of the profession's most prominent journals and have contributed significantly to the body of scientific literature in the field of chiropractic. By serving on the editorial review boards for the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics and the Canadian Journal of Chiropractic, and as editor-in-chief for the Clinical Chiropractic Report, Dr. Phillips is using his expertise to help maintain high standards in chiropractic publications.

As an internationally recognized speaker, Dr. Phillips has made major presentations on such subjects as low back pain, radiology, and the reliability of chiropractic clinical methods. In 1989, he served as the keynote speaker for the first ICSM.

Dr. Phillips is currently the director of research for Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, and was FCER's first director of research from 1979-1983. He also participates on the postgraduate faculty for Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, Northwestern College of Chiropractic, and Western States Chiropractic College.

Dr. Phillips is a 1973 graduate of National College of Chiropractic and received his Master of Science in Community Medicine (M.S.C.M.) and Ph.D. in medical sociology from the University of Utah.

An active member of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), Dr. Phillips currently serves as the chairman of the research committee of the College of Radiology and is a member of the ACA Council on Diagnostic Imaging. He is past president of the (Pacific) Consortium for Chiropractic Research and the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology.
