Parker College Organizing Chiropractic Team for International Athletic Events

Parker College of Chiropractic will organize and provide a staff of chiropractors to travel to Colombia for the 2005 Bolivarianos Games (Aug.

12-21), as well as for the 2006 Central America and Caribbean Games, which are scheduled to begin July 15 of next year. The college's participation was made possible by a sponsorship agreement between Parker and the organizing committees of both events.

"Parker College of Chiropractic is very excited for the opportunity to participate as a sponsor in these two historical sporting events," said Parker President Dr. Fabrizio Mancini. "In addition to providing chiropractic care to world-class athletes, millions of sporting enthusiasts will see the benefit of chiropractic in a very positive setting."

Parker College will serve as "Official Supplier of Sports Chiropractic Services" at each event, providing chiropractic care at every venue and at the polyclinic. College representatives will speak at the medical congress scheduled to be held prior to the opening of the games.

"Parker College's involvement in these games marks the beginning of a relationship with a profession little known in this part of the world," said Dr. Andres Botero, president of the Colombian Olympic Committee.

The Bolivarianos Games have been held every four years since 1947; athletes from Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela and Panama are eligible to participate. The 2005 games will be held in Armenia and Pereira, Columbia. The Central America and Caribbean Games, originally called the Central American Games, are the oldest continuing regional games; only the Olympic Games have a longer continuous history. The 2006 CAC Games will take place in Cartagena, Columbia, featuring athletes from 32 countries.

Both events will be televised in the United States and in participating countries. For more information, visit www.juegosbolivarianos2005.gov.co or www.Cartagena2006.gov.co.

Gentlemen, Start Your Engines: Northwestern DCs Join Racing Team

Rob Scott, DC, dean of Northwestern College of Chiropractic, and David Stude, DC, associate professor, have been chosen as the official chiropractors for the Country Joe Racing team. The team competes locally and nationally in the American Speed Association - a lower division of NASCAR.

The doctors will be providing chiropractic care to the drivers and pit crews of the Country Joe team. Initial exams of the team members will be conducted before the doctors set up an onsite clinic at the Country Joe Racings headquarters in Lakeville, Minn. Drs. Scott and Stude will visit two times a week and may travel to national racing events with the drivers and crew.

"Our goal will be to provide team members with a comprehensive, natural health care management plan," said Dr. Stude. "Providing care to Country Joe Racing will help build awareness of the benefits of chiropractic and natural health care for race car drivers, fans, and anyone else exposed to this arena."

Texas DCs Help Raise Funds for Local TV Station

Chiropractors from Lubbock, Texas recently manned the phones to help raise funds for KTXT TV, channel 5 - a local station on the campus of Texas Tech University.

Station manager Tim Chambers invited Howard W. McIlroy, DC, to participate in the event; Dr. McIlroy then enlisted the help of fellow chiropractors P.A. Willmon, DC, Dayton Boyd, DC, Jason Clemmons, DC, Matt Roeder, DC, and Kevin McAlpin, DC, to raise funds for the station while simultaneously bringing greater exposure to the profession.

According to Dr. McIlroy, they were so successful in their fundraising efforts that they have already been invited to participate in the television station's 2006 fundraising event.
