NCMIC Supports Olympic TV AD; More Details Released
The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress has released new details regarding the chiropractic television commercial that will air during the 2020 Summer Olympics, beginning with the announcement that the National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance Company (NCMIC) has joined as a partner in supporting production of the commercial.
The foundation also provided additional details regarding the commercial, which will air five times during the Summer Games, as well as a timeline for the TV spot's release. The final commercial will be presented to the profession at Parker Seminars in Las Vegas in February. From March to July, the commercial will air in local markets throughout the U.S.; culminating with five airings on NBC during the Tokyo Olympic Games (July 24 – Aug. 9) on five weekdays between the hours of 12:00 p.m. EST and 5:00 p.m. EST. Post-production and editing took place in November 2019.

Palmer Announces $20 Million in Capital Improvement Projects
Palmer College of Chiropractic has announced two building projects – two "first-of-their-kind academic spaces" – on its flagship campus in Davenport, Iowa, representing nearly $20 million in capital improvements over the next three years. According to the college, the new projects will utilize existing building space without expanding the campus footprint.
The first building, due to break ground in Spring 2020, is a new Learning Commons that will unite the functions of the college's library, labs, lounges, and seminar spaces into a communal area. The commons "will feature a glass atrium with a grand staircase designed with an anatomical spine feel."
The second building will be an Experiential Learning Center, "home to anatomy, wet and dry labs, and technique rooms where the technique D.D. Palmer first discovered is still taught today."
Palmer has now invested more than $70 million in capital projects in the Quad Cities over the past decade. Funding for the latest projects comes from "local – and global – financial support for Palmer College, which in the Quad Cities alone has an economic impact upwards of $170 million annually," according to the college.
National Board Makes Historic Examination Fee Announcement
The National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) has announced that no fee increase will be applied to 2020 examinations – the second year in a row that exam fees have remained the same. It also marks the first time in the organization's history that test fees have not increased for two consecutive years.
According to the NBCE, which made the decision regarding 2020 examination fees at its fall 2019 Board of Directors meeting in Miami, Fla., "At the meeting, the board examined the effect of cost savings measures implemented over the last two years. Thanks to efficient planning and execution, the board will maintain current fees for the series of exams the NBCE provides."
Working to Solve the Pain Crisis: Interprofessional Spine Conference Brings Manual Therapists Together
The first-of-its-kind Interprofessional.
Collaborative Spine Conference (ICSC), held in November 2019 in Pittsburgh, Pa., brought together more than 160 members of the chiropractic, physical therapy and osteopathic professions. The International Chiropractic Association (ICA) hosted the inaugural event, with the support of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) and the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (AOPT). According to event organizers, the conference was designed in an effort to "enhance patient outcomes as well as increase integration of manual therapies for back pain in the wake of the ongoing opioid crisis."
"The chiropractic profession was honored to take part in the Interprofessional Collaborative Spine Conference," said Michele Maiers, DC, MPH, PhD, vice president of the ACA. "We are committed to working together with our colleagues in physical therapy and osteopathy to raise awareness and promote integration of non-drug manual approaches."
