ICA Names Dr. Tom Klapp Its Chiropractor of the Year
Only days after his passing (see tribute in this issue), Dr. Thomas Klapp received the Chiropractor of the Year award courtesy of the International Chiropractors Association.
"It was my profound pleasure to be able to make a motion for Dr. Thomas Klapp to be elected by unanimous affirmation as the ICA Chiropractor of the Year posthumously," said Dr. Hugo V. Gibson, FICA chairman (and 2019 Chiropractor of the Year). "This is only the second time in the history of Fellows of the ICA that such a measure has been adopted. Anyone who knew Tom knows why he was selected."
In late 2020, New York Chiropractic College students showed they will one day be great doctors of chiropractic by displaying how much they care about their local community and its members, particularly those in need. Students helped build a home for a local family as part of Habitat for Humanity of Seneca County's outreach efforts.
The home-building is the latest collaboration in an ongoing relationship between the college and nonprofit – a popular option for sixth-trimester NYCC students to complete their five-hour community service requirement.
"Our experience with NYCC students is that they are willing to take on any task — demolition, building walls, putting in plumbing, wiring, roofing, you name it!", said Menzo Case, president of the Seneca chapter of Habitat for Humanity. "They bring with them a willingness to learn and patience to work with both skilled and unskilled volunteers and family members."
ACA Holds Round Table on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
The American Chiropractic Association's Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion recently convened a leadership round table, the first of its kind by the committee, to discuss equity, diversity and inclusion in the chiropractic profession. Increasing DC cultural competency, attracting more minority students, and increasing minority representation in chiropractic leadership positions were all postured by the committee as ways to make progress.
"For the past three years, [committee members] have been instrumental in developing a strategic roadmap for ACA leadership on issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion," said Robert C. Jones, DC, ACA president. "We have made great progress in our efforts and will continue to improve upon our work in the coming year."
New F4CP Board Member Named
Daniel Lord, DC, is the newest board member of the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress. Dr. Lord is the program director at Crossover Health, which offers employer-sponsored integrated health services; and specifically helped develop Crossover's musculoskeletal program and strategy, according to the foundation.
