Research and Philosophy Join Forces During International Symposium at Sherman College

Mark your calendars now for the International Research and Philosophy Symposium (A Conference on Vertebral Subluxation) October 22-23 at Sherman College. You won't want to miss it!

This year's conference features papers focused on the philosophical and scientific aspects of the neurophysiological components of the vertebral subluxation. A program on conducting research and preparing research results for presentation will also be included.

Keynote speaker Bob Blanks, Ph.D., received his doctorate in physiology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Blanks has a distinguished 27-year career in basic science and clinical research. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and abstracts.

Blanks has received many awards for his work in research and academics and was most recently named Researcher of the Year by the World Chiropractic Alliance.

Featured speaker David B. Koch, D.C., graduated from Sherman College in 1980, taught in its D.C. program from 1981 on, and went on to become president of the college from 1997-2000. He joined the Palmer College faculty in 2001, where he currently teaches chiropractic philosophy throughout the curriculum. In May 2002 he was named vice president for professional and international affairs. In this position he represents the three campuses of the Palmer Chiropractic Colleges in various capacities throughout the educational community and the world. Koch has lectured and written extensively on modern chiropractic philosophic themes.

Additional presenters include Ralph Boone, Ph.D., D.C., Glenn Hultgren, D.C., Simon Senzon, M.A., D.C., Joe Strauss, D.C., and many more. Conference features include a cookout lunch and a Saturday evening panel discussion and social hour hosted by Sherman Philosophy Department Chair Bill Decken, D.C.

Subtopics may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Neurological models that are pertinent to the interference component of the vertebral subluxation
• Deductive reasoning pertinent to the interference component of the vertebral subluxation
• Concepts and models pertaining to the mental impulse
• Tools for analyzing the neurological component of the vertebral subluxation
• Differentiation between neuropathy and vertebral subluxation
• Differentiation between misalignment and vertebral subluxation
• Neurological interference related to vertebral subluxation and methods of assessing its impact on health.
