December 12, 2011- Roanoke, VA- Jamie Greenawalt, Director of International Business at Foot Levelers, announced today that she will be leaving the company in January to work in East Timor, a small island in Southeast Asia, as an Anti-corruption and Procurement Officer for a US government- funded project.
Jamie majored in Global Studies at Sewanee: The University of the South, which focused on addressing the issues that developing countries face, such as the stability of a government and its infrastructure, education and healthcare. Before she came to Foot Levelers, she worked in the international development field for 5 years which included time in Iraq in 2006-2007. After completing her MBA she joined Foot Levelers in January 2009.
This past summer, Jamie spent her vacation time in the Dominican Republic with her church helping build a school and teach children about hygiene. It was after this most recent trip that she realized how much she missed working in these environments.
"I had to make an extremely tough decision," Jamie said. "Foot Levelers is my family in every sense of the word- this has been such an important part of my life literally since the day I was born and it always will be. It is incredibly bittersweet for me to leave Foot Levelers but it's something I feel I have to do. This is an opportunity to return to my passion. I know Foot Levelers is going to continue to grow and do great things."
Kent Greenawalt, President and CEO of Foot Levelers, said, "I am very proud of Jamie and what she is doing to help humanity. She is giving of herself for the benefit of others in an attempt to help make the world a better place. This decision was not an easy one for her-----but in the end her passion for helping others and her desire to give back gave her clear direction. As a father looking back at Jamie's growth and development-----you have to smile and say-----go out there a make a difference!"
